Lessons Learned After 1 Year of Blogging, Pursuing Other Things…for Now & Future Plans for Truth Story and Ministry

I launched Truth Story (Originally theolocast.org) at the end of 2017 – about a year ago. I launched this first theology/apologetics after having worked on hundreds of other websites since this is what I do for a living. It has been a very cool experience.

Three Lessons Learned In 1 Year

For one I have enjoyed the benefit of putting into words some answers to common objections to Christianity. There’s something about writing that helps you codify your thoughts in a way that is stronger than reading answers. Much like the teacher learns more and the students, so also the writer learns more than the reader.

Second, I have enjoyed getting familiar with the Western Christian apologetics landscape. As I have been writing here, I have seen at least three different schools of apologetics. My feet are now more firmly planted in the Presuppositional or Covenental apologetic school than they were before. But I can definitely see why others have adopted the Evidentialist school. The third possible school seems to be a subset of the Evidentialist school: Liberal Apologetics. I do not see the Liberal Apologetics as a legitimate form of Christian apologetics.

Third, I have enjoyed interacting on the social media channels: Facebook and Twitter. Before starting Truth Story, I had only been somewhat familiar with Twitter and was a modest user of Facebook. After being on both channels, I have learned by listening and contributing in the Christian social media world. I hope it was useful (if sometimes sinful), in the building up of the kingdom of God. Like everyone else, I need the Lord‘s grace to do it well. I am still learning.

Shifting to Other Pursuits…For Now

I have decided to shift my focus to two other areas at present. For one, I really want to dig more into learning Presuppositional apologetics. Though I’ve written a couple of articles on it (What Is Presuppositional Apologetics and Five Objections to Presuppositional Apologetics Crushed , I still feel like a kindergartner when it comes to the method. Not that everyone needs to be an expert to practice it (I have already practiced it as a “kindergartner” in a few conversations), but I want to learn it well. So my aim over the next few months or more is to dig more deeply into that literature, both online and offline. I may post something about apologetics in the interim, but it won’t be a regular focus.

Secondly, I have taken a new job that requires much more of my attention. In addition to the fact that I’m trying to grow a side business and teach Sunday School most weeks, life is busy. It has become a more difficult to update Truth Story while focusing on those other areas. Hence the reason why I want to back off on my theology and apologetics blog posts at this point.

Long Term Vision for Truth Story

Long term, I see Truth Story as my platform for future personal theology publishing. It may develop into something more than that, but I pray not less. As long as the Lord gives me breath, I hope to be of use in the kingdom on this or another platform.

I do see ministry in the future for myself and my family. Last year, my wife graduated from Biola / Talbot with a MA degree in Christian Apologetics. It’s been good to share that common interest. We’ve had many conversations about theology and apologetics (she’s now a firmly convinced Presuppositional Apologist). It has not always been that way. I mention that because it would seem the Lord has brought us together in that way so we can serve him together in some similar way. When and where is up to him.

It’s usually difficult to see what the Lord would have for any of us. Only God owns the future (Psalm 103:17). No wonder he tells his people to not boast in it (James 4:13-16). So I may have aspirations for this or another platform, but I do not know what the future holds.  For now, my hope is to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord, take care of my family financially, and do what I think is clear from his word by his grace. At this point, I don’t think blogging on Truth Story is part of my mix of activities.

Feel free to reach out on the contact form. I will still be checking emails periodically.

May the Lord guide you in your service to him. Blessings in Christ.
